These styles and colors have been made traditionally since ancient times. They are considered pieces of art and a kind of investment. Originating mainly in Persia (Iran), they gradually spread to other regions like India, Pakistan, China and other production centers and, over time, acquired some local nuances. Current production is a balanced mix of the original patterns and colors modified according to the modern day tastes and liking. Until about 15-20 years back, they were made in fine to very fine knot count, having busy to very busy patterns, generally in darker jewel tones or burnt shades. Currently most rugs are a happy and judicious mix of both lighter or darker colors with not-so-busy to busy patterns to suit current tastes and trends. They are generally regarded as formal rugs. We not only carry fine hand knotted master pieces, but also have hand tufted and machine made rugs to cover most price ranges.
