Part of folk-lore and legends, fine varieties of these rugs are for connoisseur of fine art and rug collectors. As they age, their colors mellow, and they appreciate in value, sometimes phenomenally if they are in mint condition. They are considered heirloom pieces passed down the generations. Apart from traditional styles made in Persia (Iran) like Heriz, Serapi, Kashan, Tabriz, Bidjar, Bakhtiari, Sarouk and… the list can be really long, this category also includes many other types of traditional rugs made, not commercially, by small nomadic tribes like the Balouch, Kazaks, Kurds, Afshar, Ersari, Qashqai in some of the most remote corners of the world. A few of the exquisite patterns and colorations are now being made in small quantities in other rug producing regions. This gallery includes some re-productions, some semi-antiques and antique pieces.
