Ushak (or Oushak) rugs are hand-knotted rugs which originated in Turkey centuries ago. Generally, they have floral and/or semi-geometrical spread-out patterns, frequently with larger motifs and details, using fine , silky and lustrous wools with softer colors or tints like muted red, terracotta, rusts, browns, buttery gold, cabbage or soft mossy green, aqua, gray, pottery or baby blues, ivory, etc. They are almost always made with Turkish knotting technique (unlike Persian rugs made with Senneh knotting style) which gives them a unique texture. Less expensive Ushaks with reasonably good quality are now being produced in hand-knotted constructions in India and Pakistan. Machine-made versions come from Egypt, Belgium and other places. . We import fine Ushaks directly from Turkey but carry all versions mentioned above.
